Due to Extreme Heat, we are currently CLOSED until Saturday 10th July
We are currently experiencing very high temperatures at the sanctuary and putting all of our efforts into keeping our residents cool and comdortable.
Thank you for understanding while we take this time out to focus entirely on them.

Turtles
(Testudines)

These turtles are rescued in partnership with Proteus Reptile Trust, our sister sanctuary. Proteus actually began their work following the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle craze in the 80s, when turtles became a popular but poorly kept and quickly abandoned pet, and needed help.
We have several species, but mostly house Red-eared terrapins (Trachemys scripta elegans) and Yellow-bellied turtles (Trachemys scripta scripta). These are species commonly kept as pets and abandoned when they grow too large - up to the size of a dinner plate - for the small enclosures they were purchased for. To help prevent this, it's extremely important to research the size, lifespan, and care needs of any animal before taking on the responsibility of caring for them, and to ensure that you have the resources to look after them for their full lifetime.
Please note, as we are currently in the lengthy process of obtaining our Alien Invasive Species license legally required to house these animals, we are unable to take in any more until this process has been completed. Thank you for understanding.
