New Aviary

We have plans to rebuild and renovate all of our animal enclosures (and with your help, the entire sanctuary!) to modernise them and make them habitats our residents truly deserve; spacious, custom-built for each species, with considerations both for them and for our Animal Care Team working inside.

Thanks to your support, we were able to build a brand new aviary for our lovely peafowl in 2021 - our largest aviary so far! We had to move our rescued peafowl out of the aviary they had shared with the ducks after they started to nest and became territorial, and so we decided it was time for them to have a home of their own. You may wonder why we need an aviary when you are so used to seeing peafowl free-roaming. We share our site with a diverse variety of native wildlife, and this includes several families of foxes who might consider Jasmine, Aladdin and Dalia as easy prey. We aimed to build an aviary as large as possible so they could still enjoy flight and roosting up high - natural behaviours for these magnificent birds.

We selected an unused plot of land next to our cockatiel aviary and thanks to funds raised by you and recycled materials kindly donated to us (if you've walked on Birmingham's Broad Street, you may have stood on the floor of this aviary!) we completed it for them!

Forever in Our Hearts

Although these beautiful peafowl are no longer with us and are missed so very much, they live on always in our hearts and minds. As long as we continue to speak their names and tell their stories, they are still with us and will never be forgotten!
